Level 2: Stored and moving¶
Energy and power · level 2 of 8 · rough age 7-8 (a guide for parents; anyone can start anywhere)
In this level you meet the main kinds of energy: the energy of moving things, the energy stored in things lifted up, stretched or squashed, and the energy carried by heat, light and sound. You see energy change from one kind into another, and find out why a rock lifted on Mars stores less energy than the same rock lifted on Earth.
| Lesson | You will be able to |
|---|---|
| Moving energy | Say which of two moving things has more energy, and why |
| Up high | Explain that lifting something stores energy, and why it stores less on Mars |
| Stretched and squashed | Explain how springs, elastic bands and bows store energy |
| Energy changes form | Follow energy as it changes from one kind into another |
| Heat is energy too | Explain that warming something needs energy, and cooling gives it out |
| Light and sound carry energy | Explain that light and sound carry energy from place to place |
